Why Did My Project Generate at the Wrong Time?

This article addresses common time zone problems that cause tasks to appear at incorrect times. You will learn how to identify, verify, and correct time zone settings within Xenia to ensure accurate task scheduling.

1. Identify Time Zone Issues

The Causes — In Order

Cause 1 — Location timezone is wrong or blank: Settings → Locations → find the store → timezone field. If blank, incorrectly set to UTC, or wrong for that store's geography, fix it. This is the most common cause of a time offset. Future tasks generate correctly after the fix.

Cause 2 — User timezone blank (user-based projects): If the project is user-based and a user has no timezone set, Xenia falls back to the workspace timezone — or in some edge cases, UTC. Settings → Users → the user → confirm their timezone is set.

Cause 3 — Project was recently edited: There's a known behavior where editing a project's name or other settings can cause start/due times to shift in some configurations. After an edit, open the project and verify the times still show your intended values. If they've shifted, correct them and save.

Consistent ~5-hour offset: This typically indicates UTC vs. Eastern Time (or similar) mismatch. A location defaulted to UTC instead of Eastern. Fix the timezone and the offset resolves for future tasks.
